Xbox Series X No Display? The Most Common Causes
A black screen on an Xbox can be a cable issue, HDMI damage, resolution confusion, or a deeper board fault.

Putney's riverside streets running up from the bridge, and the roads off Lower Richmond Road, are full of people who work from home at least part of the week — so a broken machine here usually means a lost working day. We come to you for console repair, covering Putney and Roehampton together, and take on HDMI ports with no picture, overheating shutdowns, charging-port faults and drifting controllers in front of you.
There is no callout charge either way, a fixed quote before we start, and nothing to pay if we can't fix it.
We repair Xbox Series X, Series S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED — so the first step is a proper diagnosis to confirm whether the fault is a port, the power system, thermals, or storage.
The Nintendo Switch fails in ways the home consoles do not, because it is the only one that gets carried around and plugged in several times a day. The single most common fault we see is a worn USB-C port: the console charges intermittently, then only at a certain angle, then not at all. That is a port replacement, not a new console, and the Switch Lite and OLED are the same job. Docking problems are the other pattern — a Switch that works handheld but gives no picture on the TV is usually the dock or its cable rather than the console, which is worth establishing before anyone opens anything. Cracked screens, dead batteries and water damage are all repairable too, and your games, saves and Nintendo account are untouched throughout.
This is our dedicated console repair page for Putney. For the full picture of everything we repair here, see our Putney repair page, or our London-wide Console Repair service.
Across Putney, the console repair calls we get most often involve HDMI ports with no picture, overheating shutdowns, charging-port faults and drifting controllers — though we are called out for plenty more besides.
Screen and battery work makes up a lot of what we do in Putney — a MacBook Air that's taken a knock, or an older Mac that no longer lasts a morning on charge. We carry the common Air and Pro parts so most of these are done on-site. Liquid damage is the other recurring one, and with Putney's mix of home offices a coffee into a keyboard is more common than you'd think; if you get to us quickly the outlook is usually far better than people fear. We also do a steady stream of speed-ups — SSD and memory upgrades on machines that are a few years old and perfectly capable with the right parts — and we'll always tell you when that's a smarter spend than a full replacement. Student laptops from the Roehampton side tend to be screens, hinges and charging faults.
Agreed upfront before we touch your device. No surprises.
Putney sits a little further west of our New Malden base, but there's still no callout charge and same-day is usually workable if you call before 2pm. Parking around the High Street and the station is permit-controlled and tight, so we'll agree access with you when you book rather than circling. Riverside and Heath-side streets are generally easier. Evenings and weekends are no extra charge, which suits the work-from-home crowd who can't break off mid-afternoon.
No shop drop-off. We travel to your home or office in Putney at no extra charge.
Most repairs done on-site within the hour. Book before 2pm and we aim to visit the same day.
Quality replacement parts, backed by a 90-day parts and labour warranty.
If we cannot fix it, you pay absolutely nothing — no diagnostic or callout fee.
