What kind of console repair do you do in Ewell?

PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One in all its versions, and the full Nintendo Switch family — original, Lite and OLED. We also take on older hardware that most shops will not touch: PS3, PS2, Xbox 360 and older Nintendo machines. Why won't my Nintendo Switch charge?

Accepted Answer

Nearly always a worn USB-C port. The Switch is the one console that gets plugged and unplugged several times a day, and the port loosens over time — you will usually notice it charging only at a certain angle before it stops entirely. Replacing the port fixes it properly and costs a fraction of a new console. Test a different cable and plug first, because a frayed cable produces identical symptoms. If it charges in handheld but gives no TV picture, that is the dock rather than the console.

Can you fix controller stick drift?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and it is a genuine repair rather than a workaround. Drift means the potentiometer inside the stick module has physically worn, which is why cleaning it or recalibrating never holds for long — the part is worn out and needs replacing. We do this for DualSense, Xbox and Joy-Con controllers. One honest caveat: on an inexpensive third-party pad the repair can cost close to a replacement, and we will tell you that rather than take the job. On a DualSense Edge, an Elite or Pro pad, or a controller you are attached to, it is well worth doing.

Do you clean and service consoles, or only repair broken ones?

Both, and the servicing is the better value of the two. A console pulls household dust through itself constantly, and after a couple of years the heatsink is packed and the thermal paste has dried — which is why it gets loud, then throttles, then starts shutting down mid-game. A strip-down, clean and fresh paste restores it to how it ran when new. Booking that before the shutdowns start is what keeps a cheap service from turning into an expensive board repair later.

Do you repair older or retro consoles?

Yes, within reason. PS3, PS2, Xbox 360 and older Nintendo hardware come up regularly and most of it is fixable — the usual culprits are the power supply, the optical drive laser, a perished drive belt or dried capacitors rather than anything exotic. Parts are harder to source than for current machines and turnaround is longer. Where something genuinely is not economically repairable we will tell you that at the point of diagnosis, and there is nothing to pay.

Do you come to me, or do I have to send the console somewhere?

We come to you, anywhere in Greater London, with no callout charge. Cleaning, thermal work, controller modules, power supplies, disc drives and Switch charging ports are all done at your home in a single visit. The exception is board-level soldering — HDMI ports, retimer chips, liquid damage on the mainboard — which needs a microscope and a proper bench, so we collect those and return them tested. You are told which one applies before any work is agreed.

Will I lose my games or save data?

Accepted Answer

No. None of these repairs touches the internal storage — not HDMI work, not cleaning, not a power supply or a charging port. Your installed games and saves stay exactly where they are, and on PlayStation, Xbox and Switch your saves are also tied to your account, so they are protected independently of the machine. If a repair ever did require work on the storage itself, we would tell you before starting rather than after.

How much does console repair cost?

Labour is £120 per hour with a one-hour minimum, plus any part, and both figures are agreed before we begin. Cleaning and thermal servicing is usually the one-hour minimum. Ports, drives and controller modules add the cost of the part. Board-level work is quoted per job after a free diagnosis, because a bent port and a failed retimer chip are not the same repair. If we cannot fix it, you pay nothing at all.
