Gaming Console Overheating: What Usually Causes It
Unexpected shutdowns, loud fans, and heat warnings are often a maintenance problem before they become a hardware failure.

Ewell Village, with Bourne Hall and Nonsuch Park close by, is one of the quieter corners of our patch — mostly local families whose machine has slowed down or taken a knock. We bring console repair to your door rather than have you drive a fragile computer into Epsom or Kingston, and take on HDMI ports with no picture, overheating shutdowns, charging-port faults and drifting controllers in front of you.
There is no callout charge either way, a fixed quote before we start, and our No Fix, No Fee guarantee on every job.
We repair Xbox Series X, Series S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED — so the first step is a proper diagnosis to confirm whether the fault is a port, the power system, thermals, or storage.
The Nintendo Switch fails in ways the home consoles do not, because it is the only one that gets carried around and plugged in several times a day. The single most common fault we see is a worn USB-C port: the console charges intermittently, then only at a certain angle, then not at all. That is a port replacement, not a new console, and the Switch Lite and OLED are the same job. Docking problems are the other pattern — a Switch that works handheld but gives no picture on the TV is usually the dock or its cable rather than the console, which is worth establishing before anyone opens anything. Cracked screens, dead batteries and water damage are all repairable too, and your games, saves and Nintendo account are untouched throughout.
This is our dedicated console repair page for Ewell. For the full picture of everything we repair here, see our Ewell repair page, or our London-wide Console Repair service.
Across Ewell, the console repair calls we get most often involve HDMI ports with no picture, overheating shutdowns, charging-port faults and drifting controllers — though we are called out for plenty more besides.
Family machines are the backbone of the work in Ewell — laptops that have got sluggish, run out of storage, or been dropped by somebody's teenager. Battery replacements and cracked-screen jobs on MacBooks come up most, and we carry the common Air and Pro parts so a lot of those are finished on-site in under an hour. The other steady job is the speed-up: an older iMac or laptop that feels past it but only really needs an SSD and a clean install to work like new again. It's the cheapest thing you can do to a slow computer, and we'd rather fit one than sell you a repair you don't need. We also get the occasional liquid spill and won't-turn-on emergency — and with those, the sooner you call, the more we can usually save.
Agreed upfront before we touch your device. No surprises.
