What to expect with Logic Board Repair
A logic board fault is the point where Apple and an independent repairer diverge most sharply. Apple does not repair boards; it replaces them, and on a modern MacBook a replacement board can approach the value of the machine, which is how a working Mac ends up written off over one failed component. Component-level repair takes the opposite approach: find the part that has actually failed — a power management IC, a backlight fuse, a charging circuit, a cracked joint under a connector — and replace that. It is microscope work with hot air and fine solder, and when it succeeds you keep the board, the machine and everything on it for a fraction of the replacement price.
Diagnosis is where most of the skill sits, and it is free. Symptoms mislead badly at this level: a Mac that shows nothing on screen may have a perfectly good display and a dead backlight fuse, which is one of the cheapest repairs there is. A machine that seems completely dead may be failing to start a single power rail. We measure the rails and the charging circuit, look at what the board is actually drawing, and where liquid is involved open it up and inspect the corrosion under magnification. Only then do we quote — and if the board is beyond economic repair we will say so plainly rather than charging you to find out slowly.
Two honest points about how this works. First, this is workshop repair, not a doorstep job. We collect the Mac or you drop it to us, the work is done on proper rework equipment, and it typically takes a few days rather than an hour — anyone offering microscope soldering on your kitchen table is not doing it properly.
