The call

A customer in Earl's Court asked about upgrading the storage in their 21-inch iMac and having the machine serviced at the same time. We collected it and did the work at the bench.

Reported fault: Wanted an SSD upgrade and a clean-out

What we found

  • The iMac is a 2015 21-inch model, opened by releasing the display panel to reach the logic board and drive bay.
  • With the fan out, the intake edge was packed with a thick mat of dust and lint — visible in the first photo.

During the repair

iMac opened with the display panel lifted away, showing the logic board, power supply and a Crucial SSD fitted next to the fan

  3. 3Fitted a Crucial BX SSD in place of the original drive.
  4. 4Reassembled the machine and refitted the display panel.
  5. 5Installed the latest version of macOS and tested the machine before return.

The result

The iMac went back to the customer within 24 hours, running on the new SSD with the latest macOS installed and the cooling path clear. As with all our work, it carries a 90-day warranty and our no-fix-no-fee position applies.
